Whoops!

me and a blue wall
Apologies to anyone on dialup or even broadband for the lack of a cut on my last entry. I know I put the cut in there, even put the text for it in, but when I came back today the cut was gone. Hopefully it didn't screw up anyone's friends list more than normal!

In other news, there's not really other news. Just rolling along trying to hit a deadline for a manuscript edit. I also got three first drafts in practically at once, and am waiting on a fourth. Those will all require first reads and edits, and on top of that I'm trying to really look at some new stuff for planning out my next year. So this month is rather busy! If you're waiting to hear from me on a submission, hopefully you'll be hearing back this month or next, as I sit down and really go through the pile. That means reading all requested manuscripts in addition to reading samples that have been sent in. If you sent a sample and I end up asking for a full, though, of course the timing on that might take a little longer!

May I politely request that you upload your pictures a little smaller? Even at full screen on my 1280x1024 res 19" monitor the pictures are registering as scaled to 32%. When I get to one of your photo posts they never all load and take forever even with my DSL connection.

I guess when you link in LJ from your gallery it is linking to the full 3872x2592 image rather than the 640x428 that it shows when I'm navigating through the individual pictures. (I can see the 3872x2592 if I click a picture in the gallery).

Please understand that I love to see your pictures, but that it would be easier to see them if they were a little smaller. ^^;

I was wondering why they were taking so long to load. I have a 10 MP camera, and sometimes I forget to do a batch scale-down before uploading. The full-size picture does show up when you click the smaller picture, but I didn't think that the entry itself was trying to post a full size picture when I specify it to be 300 pixels on the entry. I'm going to have to investigate what exactly LJ is doing.

I believe you are only specifying how the picture will be displayed, it won't affect the actual file size.

Right, but the point is that the display is only 300 pixels, therefore what it puts up is only 300x200 some, and shouldn't really be taking the same amount of time as a 2000 pixel picture. Obviously that's not what's happening, but I don't have time to worry about it today.

However the display specifications don't change the size of the file. My computer still has to download the entire file in order to display it. If it only downloaded 32% of the file, I'd only see 32% of the picture, rather than the picture at 32% of its original size.

I don't think you should have to change the old posts, it was meant as a request for future pictures. Like I said, I love looking at your pictures. ^_^

And sorry for getting so technical.
